One of the streets in Grodno is named after Fedor Bazhora, the Hero of the Soviet Union, who took part in the liberation of the Grodno region from the Nazis in the summer of 1944. A street was named after him in the microdistrict of the Factory Regional Center.

Fedor Bazhora was born in 1911 on the Elizavetovka farm of the Donetsk district. He studied, worked on a collective farm, and in 1933 he was drafted into the army and served in the Far East.

The front roads of World War II for him take the countdown from December 1941 on the Crimean Front. He served in a separate company PTR battalion of the Marine Corps. He took part in the heroic defense of Sevastopol. All the days of the heroic defense of the Black Sea fortress, Fyodor Bazhora, the secretary of the party organization of the company, inspired military comrades by personal example. In 1943-1944 he studied at the Moscow Military-Political School named after V.I. Lenin. And in March 1944 he went to the front for the second time. He was appointed party organizer of the rifle battalion in the 379th rifle regiment of the 220th rifle division of the 31st army on the Western Front, from April on the 3rd Belarusian Front. He showed courage and courage during the Belarusian strategic offensive operation.

The award sheet says that Senior Lieutenant Fyodor Bazhora in a battle near the village of Zhodino on July 2, 1944, with his example carried away the personnel of the 4th and 5th rifle companies to repel an enemy counterattack, destroyed 11 soldiers and officers of the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. As a result of the battle, the position of the battalion was restored.

Bazhor was among the Soviet soldiers who were the first to enter Minsk. When crossing the Neman, he personally crossed the river under heavy enemy fire, held his position and supported the attack of the rifle unit. Then he organized a group of fighters and, with a sudden blow to the flank, restored the situation in the threatened area. He distinguished himself during the crossing of the Maryha River. He took an easel machine gun from his dead comrades, crossed the river with him under enemy fire and supported the attack of rifle units. As a result, the village was quickly liberated, the enemy suffered casualties, part of the Nazis was captured. During the operation to liberate another village with his comrades, he made his way to the rear of the enemy and organized an ambush on the road and cut the path for enemy soldiers, while seizing vehicles with ammunition.

After the liberation of the Grodno region, the unit in which Fyodor Bazhor served, continued to the west with battles. In August 1944, Lieutenant Bazhor was wounded. But a month later he returned to duty, was the deputy commander of the battalion for political affairs as part of the 412th Infantry Regiment. Participated in East Prussian and East Pomeranian offensive operations.

In the battles for the seizure of the cities of Danzig and Gdynia, Bazhor was seriously injured. He was at the hospital for treatment until August 1945, and then was transferred to the reserve. He returned to his homeland in the Rostov region. He worked in the district committee of the party, headed the collective farm and village council. He led an active public activity.

On 24th of March 1945 Fedor Bazhor was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, the Gold Star medal, the medal «For the Defense of Sevastopol» and others.

Fyodor Bazhor died on 4th of July 1966.
